Election Eve Message
November 01, 2004 (Monday)
posted by dscully 11/01/2004 7:11 p.m.
Well, it wouldn't be very convincing
to take a stand on the election
the day after the election, would it ?
There are a lot of issues to talk about
and things to comment on,
but I'll get to the point on things.
Last week I wrote a long entry
that I didn't post
simply because it seemed too long,
but I'll link to it on the
bottom of this page, anyway,
to show I'm not hiding anything.
Sometimes, to some, the notes
and sketches of the artist
are as interesting, or more so,
than the final work.
I Voted For Bush
Should be no surprise here,
if you check my weblog
and entries such as "Four More Years".
However, some may have wondered,
considering my recent weblog title
about Tulare County Republican Criminals.
Well, I think most people
who identify strongly as
Republican or Democrat
are extremists who've taken sides.
It's the old Lott and Pelosi problem.
(Incidentally, Pelosi is the name
of the administrator who's encouraged
me to apply for a teaching position
in Karachi, Pakistan.)
The problem with Lott and Pelosi
is that their parties elected
them to leadership positions in Congress,
and they represent
extreme right and left positions.
I recently took
The World's Smallest Political Quiz
and discovered that I'm a liberal.
The first time I took it
a few weeks ago,
I was right on the centrist/liberal line.
So, labels are only vaguely useful.
I feel much more strongly about
some issues than others,
so while I may answer a question
that gives me ten points as a liberal,
and another question that gives me
ten points as a conservative,
I may feel the second question
to be much more important.
I vote for Bush because,
when I step back and look at
the overall picture, he's the man,
and conservative trumps liberal.
As I said before, I don't like
the way we've put our soldier's lives'
is jeopardy needlessly in the past
year and a half, since the successful
occupation of Baghdad.
They've been picked off needlessly
on convoys all year.
What happened to the doctrine
of overwhelming force ?
But, overall, the invasion of Iraq
was a gutsy leadership move,
and I believe we had a momentum
a year and a half ago
that had all the leaders
of the terrorist nations
ready to negotiate
and make major concessions
for their survival.
We may just be putting off
eventual showdowns that may
take place decades or generations
from now.
We need to have some real,
politically incorrect,
out of the box, courageous
thinking and political action,
like ending all immigration
from Muslim/middle eastern countries
and expelling all Muslim/middle
easterners who threaten our safety.
Let's get real.
Contributions
I donated $100 to the Bush/Republican
campaign several months ago,
and I've received so many follow-up
solicitations for more money,
that they must have spent the whole
hundred dollars just asking me
for more money.
And I was tempted,
knowing that they keep track of all this.
But I think of the schtick
Armstrong and Getty did a week or so
ago about Martha Stewart
and the poor saps who
actually send her money in jail
because they feel sorry for her.
I Contributed $100 Again
Well, I contributed another hundred
dollars yesterday, but this time
it was to my daughter
to further a cause that
is important to her.
Join Arnold
Then I get an email inviting me
to Join Arnold on election day.
Join by contributing, that is.
And, again, a few days later,
I received an invitation
to Join Arnold by voting
by his voter's guide.
Well, I did that,
as a matter of fact.
But, let me make this
perfectly clear to all you
Republicans and people around Arnold.
I AM A LEADER.
I wrote the script for the Limbaugh
program, in 1982. And so,
I shaped the direction of the discourse
of the neo-cons for the past 2 decades.
You recognize that, or fuck you.
I may be physically healthier
and more youthful, but I am
the same age as Limbaugh.
I'm not your little kid.
I have nothing but contempt
for your patronizing.
I recognize the power
of your positions,
but if you are not collegial
and professional enough
to give me recognition,
it shows how contemptible you are.
If you expect to control me
with vague hints, you can kiss
my ass. It's not good for
my mental health to sit around
waiting for the phone to ring.
I ALREADY AM a leader of the conservative
movement. It's just a question of whether
you recognize that or not.
And, if you don't,
I will take that into consideration
regarding whether you deserve
my leadership and support.
Only because the flaky left is worse,
do you greedy conservatives get my
vote.
Bush and Kerry are both pretty good men,
compared with the rest of the country.,
but Kerry seems to represent
old-fashioned 60's liberalism,
fighting the ghosts of yesterday.
Bush, in his simplicity,
is more genuine.
And my vote is not even so much
a vote against Kerry or for Bush,
as it is against the liberal machine.
The October Surprise about
the 300 tons of explosives
at Al Qaqua is typical
of the liberals' mentality.
They are so arrogent and bratty
in their contempt for the intelligence
of mainstream Americans.
I know thier thinking and chutzpah well,
as an insider from the 60's.
Those explosives represent
less that 1/1000th of the explosives
circulating in Iraq.
And surely the timing is suspect.
Indeed, it may just be a good argument
for a more aggressive military conquest
of Iraq by defeating and dominating them
thoroughly and unconditionally.
We Need a Centrist Party
We need a new political party
that represents reasonable Americans -
A Centrist Party.
I Pledge To Support The Winner
of the election, whoever gets
the required number of electoral votes.
Those are the rules we play by.
It's possible to change the rules
if you don't think they're good rules.
Our Process Is The Message
Yes, The Medium Is The Message.
It is our example to the world
that matters. It is the very
fact that we have vigorous debate
and close elections - that may be
the real message to the world.
Bush isn't perfect.
America isn't perfect.
But we're free to debate these issues
and replace him and his ideas
with better people and ideas,
or to keep him.
Please Be Civil, Reasonable
Liberals say a lot that I agree with,
and so do Conservatives.
And both say and do a lot
worthy of contempt.
We need to listen to each other more,
and admit it when the other person's right.
But we can't do that with an
"us against them" political mentality
and structure like we have now.
That's why I remain registered
as an Independent, non-aligned voter.
*******
Armstrong and Getty Rule
I receive publications in the mail
from the liberal colleges I attended.
They just suddenly started sending them
since I got politically active
and started my weblog.
I scan them with a healthy
dose of contempt,
just to see what they're
trying to say.
Got one from the UCDavis history dept
a while back, and it looks like
almost the entire dept is composed
of middle easterners.
Been getting an occasional publication
from St. Peter's Prep since I donated
$100 to them last year
(sorry Republicans, sorry KVIE),
and it's a welcome publication.
I appreciate the solid, rigorous
intellectual culture I grew up in,
the more I witness California.
Years back, I was watching a KVIE
(public tv) fund raiser, listening to
the husband of Jerry Brown's sister
talk about their "intellectual rigor".
I almost vomited. The absence of
intellectual rigor is perhaps
the best definition of a liberal.
I used to scoff at my mother's statement
as hyperbole when she maintained
that she got a better education
in elementary school than today's
kids get in college.
But, considering that the Bee's
Weigand has problems writing
a sentence with the clarity
that a sixth grader in a Catholic School
would command, I think now
that maybe she was right.
Well, I also received a publication
of "The Sacramento Union" recently,
a preview edition of the magazine
that the venerable old newspaper
is coming out with in January.
In it, they praise Tom Sullivan,
who I lampooned in my weblog entry,
"Rush In Rehab".
In truth, Tom is a credit to the Irish,
and I congratulate him on his success.
I lampooned him to make a point
about the clique-ish, clubbish
nature of the Sacramento media,
and I know that Tom is a big enough man
to take it in stride.
He's OK, if stable is your
top priority - nothing new,
nothing original - but steady
and predictible and reliable.
Now, if it's cutting edge intelligence
that you're looking for,
then Armstrong and Getty Rule
the airwaves in Sacramento.
It's KSTE, a.m. 650, 6 to 10 a.m.
and also channel 58 in the morning.
By the way, Jack and Joe,
at the end of your show this morning
you wondered aloud why it's OK,
on Halloween, to dress as Saddam
or Osama, but not as Hitler.
Why do people go berserk with rage
when you dress as Hitler or a Nazi,
but not when you dress as Saddam or Osama ?
It's really a very simple matter
of political correctness.
You see Saddam and Osama
hate WHITE MEN, primarily,
and the culture and civilization
of white man,
and a hatred of white men
is politically correct. We're
responsible for everything bad.
Hitler, on the other hand,
was a white man, himself,
and he espoused an ideology
of white supremacy.
Basically, the phenomenon
about which you inquire
exposes the racist ideology
of liberals: they HATE white men.
It's OK to hate white men, for them,
but they don't feel comfortable
hating non-white men like Saddam
and Osama. Their liberal ideology
is aligned with Osama and Saddam
in its hatred of white men.
It's a visceral thing,
not an intellectual one.
It's pretty much the same reason
why it's ok for mayor Rudin,
in her mind, to hate you and
to try to destroy your careers
and livelihood. You're white men.
Fuck you. You're the enemy.
And it's pretty much the same reason
why it's ok for liberal educators,
in their minds, to hate me
and blacklist me from education.
Probably the reason you couldn't see it
right away is because of self-censorship.
Even honest, intelligent thinkers
like you two control and rein in
your thoughts to stay in line
with political correctness.
I think hatred for white men
and the white race also
pretty much explains why
we didn't embrace Russia
with warmth and friendship
after perestroika and glasnost
and the dissolution of the
Soviet Union.
Now, with Arnold's election,
we have not so much a revolution,
as a coup. They're just playing
the same old game,
trying to win ground with experienced
people and a superstar.
Arnold's frame of reference,
coming here as an adult, and rocketing
to fame and success, is different
from yours and mine. He just wants you
to make nicey with Rudin, even
though she'd like to destroy you
if she could.
And, as for Rush and me,
well what was Cromwell's complaint ?
"Not enough trees here
to hang and Irishman."
What I Wrote Last Week
*******
Below is a photo of my absentee ballot,
taken November 1,
and posted when I get it developed
and get around to posting it.
This is how I voted.
I believe in the value of
the secret ballot,
so I will usually not do this.
I just feel like doing it this time.
President: George Bush, Richard Cheney
U.S. Senator: David Scully, write in
Boxer's repulsively liberal,
and I'm making a statement against
polite, careful, cautious,
tall white guys who are
also central valley farmers,
considering that a central valley
dairyman shot up my container
by proxy (his son), most likely.
U.S. Representative: David Scully, write in
State Senator: Podesto, Arnold's Man
State Assembly: David Scully, write in
I like John Munn, but the Yolo County
Republicans have rubbed me wrong.
If Republicans want my support, I'm going to
have to be dealing directly with Arnold
and Riordan and people at that level.
On the propositions, I voted according to
the voters' guide on www.joinarnold.com.
