I've Come A
Long Way, Baby !

Sac Bee's "Bloggers Unplugged"
(Scene May 10, 2005)
by Rachel Leibrock
shows us how far
feminists have come
as professionals.
Written by a female
at The Sacramento Bee,
Rachel Leibrock,
it touts BLOGS and books,
mostly about fashion and gossip, by
Wendy McClure (female),
Mimi Smartypants (female),
Rebecca Blood (female),
Megan Lynch (female),
Jessica Cutler (female),
Ana Marie Cox (female),
Jen Lancaster (female),
Pamela Ribon (female),
Keith Thompson
(MALE !)
Candace Bushnell (female),
Heather Armstrong (female), and
Jennifer Ringley (female).
Also touted
are two websites
about which the columnist
is not gender-specific.
They are "Gawker",
a celebrity gossip blog,
and "gofugyourself",
a fashion blog.
Now, call me rash,
even call me Dr. Risk
if you must,
but I'm gonna say
they musta been written
(lemme guess)
by gay white men.
There's been a
firestorm of controversy
among my staff
(specifically Sally Ducvid
and Charles Bustmont)
about whether this
is a nod or a slap
from The Bee
at the website
of yours truly.
Sally says all those
touted weblogs
are a mirrored reflection
of our own weblog,
a sort of parallelism,
and that it's
an encouraging
and supportive nod
to our (especially HER)
talents.
Charlie says we're being
intentionally insulted
by being passed over
and disregarded.
As editor, I say,
"Stay The Course !"
I mean,
we can't read their minds !
Just because we're direct
and straightforward
doesn't mean
we can make The Bee
be direct and straightforward.
We wrote the Limbaugh script.
We did his show prep for the 90's.
We told The Bee.
They must have done the research
with their awesome staff
and resources and connections.
Now they want to
play Cat And Mouse,
I guess,
while I struggle in poverty
and fight despair.
If they want me
to write a book,
as Sally says they're insinuating,
they can be direct about it
and feed and house me
while I do it,
so I'll have the time
and energy and resources
to do a quality job.
