Mr. David Scully
established a student organization
at California State University in Sacramento,
24 years ago and,
in a series of 7 or 8 weekly newsletters in 1982,
Mr. Scully wrote the script for the Rush Limbaugh program.
Mr. Scully took on the shallow, extremist liberals
on their own turf, challenging the liberals'
hypocrisy, especially in education.
Mr. Scully set the trend for the conservative
intellectual and critical discourse
that flourishes today on a.m. radio and
the FOX channel. It's powerful presence
has created a sea-change in political
discourse throughout the nation and,
by example, throughout the world.
Mr. Scully rocked the educational community
and the intellectual community in Sacramento.
He took on the extremists and was politically
incorrect when no one knew what the term meant.
Two years later, in 1984, Rush Limbaugh came
to Sacramento and, using the far-reaching medium
of radio, plowed through the ice
that Mr. Scully had broken two years earlier
at great personal and professional sacrifice.
Mr. Scully attended an expensive Limbaugh dinner
in the mid-90's, and listened as Limbaugh
explained that he DECIDED to do a political
program AFTER arriving in Sacramento,
after observing that the rest of the dial
consisted of mindless pap.
Mr. Scully had just written, published,
and distributed his newsletters
a year and a half before Limbaugh's arrival and,
as Mr. Scully was to discover
as he was harassed through
the next two decades,
Mr. Scully's newsletters were widely read
among Sacramento's power clique -
government education employees,
politicians and, presumably, media people.
Limbaugh stole from Mr. Scully
the idea of satirizing himself as a Hun
(The Attila The Hun Chair) and,
when the theme, content, and tone
of Limbaughs program over the following
decade and a half are examined,
reasonable and intelligent people will conclude
that Limbaugh was inspired by Mr. Scully's writings.
And they will conclude that
the theme, content, and tone
of Limbaughs program so remarkably
resemble those of Mr. Scully's writings,
that Mr. Scully's writings were, in effect,
the script for Limbaugh's program or,
in Limbaugh's terms, his "show prep".
Mr. Scully's wrote the song,
and Limbaugh sang it.
Mr. Scully's wrote the play,
and Limbaugh produced it.
Limbaugh took on the nazis - the feminazis,
the econazis, the race baiters, just as Mr. Scully
had started doing two years earlier in Sacramento,
and Limbaugh made roads of the paths Mr. Scully had pioneered.
Mr. Scully has not even YET
been acknowledged by
the Mean-Spirited Limbaugh.
Because of Mr. Scully's pioneering work
as a conservative activist,
Mr. Scully was blacklisted by the liberals
in education from having a teaching career,
even though, in 1987, Mr. Scully
earned credentials to teach high school
Mathematics, Physical Science, and Social Studies.
It is extremely rare for a teacher
to have three significant endorsements,
two of which have been in critical shortage
of qualified teachers for decades (and still are).
Mr. Scully did a good job as a student teacher,
and has good written references,
so reasonable and intelligent people will conclude
that Mr. Scully's education career
Mr. Scully's education career
has been blacklisted by the McCarthyism of the Left.
Mr. Scully was violently attacked
by a student at Edison High School
in Stockton, CA in 1989,
and Mr. Scully reasonably believes
that student may have been
incited to do so by violent
and extremist members of the teachers union.
The attack left Mr. Scully
with chronic ear infections
for a decade and a half,
until last November when Mr. Scully
underwent a curative operation at the
Very, Very Holy Mather VA Hospital.
Mr. Scully is on unemployment now
after having been attacked, AGAIN,
in Stockton, CA, while working
as a truck driver
fueling railroad locomotives
in a union environment AGAIN.
This attack was entirely
unprovoked by Mr. Scully
(though the attacker was incited
by the lead driver).
Reasonable and intelligent people
might wonder whether there is
a related pattern here,
since Mr. Scully was again
working in a union environment
when the unprovoked attack occured.
Mr. Scully is appalled by the
abuses of the greedy, and
mean-spirited super-rich like Limbaugh,
and is of the opinion that strong
and good unions are necessary,
but is also appalled by union thugs
and the public employee unions
that control Sacramento politics,
ripping off the people
rather than serving them.
Yet the Mean-Spirited Limbaugh,
who built his career
expoundng on the ideas
he got from Mr. Scully's writings
refuses to pay Mr. Scully
in any manner, not even with
the acknowledgement
that professional courtesy DEMANDS.
Apparently Limbaugh and other conservatives
and liberals would be quite happy
to see Scully and his story go away,
and hence are quite content to relegate him
to work as a garbage man or truck driver,
or anything where he'll be too busy and tired
to write.
A One Man Vanguard !
In 2003, Diane Ravitch, with the Hoover Institute,
published "The Language Police,
How Pressure Groups Restrict What Students Learn".
It is a highly regarded work,
by education's most esteemed scholar,
which rails against language and
thought censorship which has been internalized
by publishers and educators, resulting in
ridiculous, bland, boring textbooks.
In "The Languge Police", Dr. Ravitch
frequently quotes and references
Orwell and Orwell's "1984".
Thus, Ravitch illustrates
how Orwell's dire predictions
have become today's reality.
Discussing her book on the radio,
Dr. Ravitch explained that
she had to ridicule the education industry
in order to get it to change.
In 1982, 21 years earlier, Dave Scully
wrote and published a series of newsletters
in which he railed against
language and thought control,
especially in education, and
especially as enforced by liberals.
"It's like '1984'", Mr. Scully explained,
to a chorus of scorn and mockery.
Yet Time Has Proven Him Right.
Mr. Scully had to ridicule the education industry
in order to get it to change.
Though he has been blacklisted and marginalized
and physically attacked
and had his character assassinated,
Mr. Scully has never backed down on his positions.
