GILBERT DOCTOROW re-established The American Committee For East-West Accord in 2015
Doctorow did it with U.S. Ambassador to the Soviet Union, JACK F. MATLOCK JR. (1987 to 1991 under Ronald Reagan).
(note by David Scully.) I met US AMBASSADOR MATLOCK at the 2012 Forum in DC,
and some Russians were posing the two of us together in the hallway for photos.
I felt it was an encouraging, positive gesture
and I suppose the Russians would have chosen me as the next U.S. Ambassador to Russia,
but I believe Ambassador Matlock was underwhelmed by my quietness
as we walked together to Washington Union Station that afternoon.
I was not a Russian expert, just a friendly citizen-diplomat.
