Who's Generation ?!

****************************************************************************

The Sixties Campus Activists BECAME The Establishment ? And The Alaska Education Establishment Is Just An Extension Of California Education ?

Yes, that's right. In the 60's they dressed up like circus clowns and let their hair grow long. Two decades later, all of a sudden they realized they were The Establishment as their weary parents, who had defeated their fascists and introduced the electronics age, limped off to some florida somewhere to retire. Every now and then you'd see another one of these clowns of the 60's put on a jacket and tie and do the brat swagger.

"Dressed Up Like Circus Clowns ?" Isn't That A Little Harsh !?

Aw. Poor little baby boomers. Are you gonna protect them from my big mean ole words and ideas that they might not like... like a liberal fascist ?

Touche. Point Well Taken. OK. So They Were Circus Clowns Who Donned Jackets And Ties.

I'm just tellin' you what was said on Tom Brokaw's program about the baby boomers. P.J.O'Rourke said it (IDENTIFY HIM). Yeah, Tom Brokaw, the "good boy" of network news, the "country nice" boy of network news, gave mommy and daddy a present with his "The Greatest Generation." So he followed it up with a program on the baby boomers. I don't know why.

Maybe They Threw A Tantrum, Like They Did In The Sixties, Like They've Been Doing All Their Lives.

That's possible. Anyway, Our Graduate Student heard Brokaw's program on the baby boomers twice, and the first time the program seemed to put them on a pedestal. The second time Our Graduate Student heard at least a bit of an opposing viewpoint, but that could have just been selective listening. Anyway, he liked it better the second time. I mean, the first time he heard it, he hears Brokaw waxing enthusiastic, ebullient, almost religious about the defining event of the baby boomer generation.

Woodstock !

The second time, he heard P.J. O'Rourke's opposing viewpoint. O'Rourke shares Our Graduate Student's opinion regarding woodstock, they "dressed like circus clowns." O'Rourke didn't romanticize his generation. He didn't subscribe to that FAKE liberal MYTH. Neither did Our Graduate Student. He just never did agree about the greatness of a bunch of spoiled, entitled brats rolling around in the mud doing drugs and alcohol while the music played loud. The year before woodstock, Our Graduate Student, a 17-year-old college freshman, spend his whole freshman year consumed by the campus unrest. It was all about endless debate for him and constant screaming and yelling, and he didn't have enough experience and knowledge to figure it all out. It wasn't about music and drugs and alcohol for him. It was about civil rights, social and economic structure, and the Vietnam war. "Everyone was yelling and noboby was listening," is the way Tom Hanks described the times, when interviewed by Brokaw for the show.

How Does OUr Graduate Student Feel About Tom Hanks ?

He's Absolutely Top Drawer ! You know, use of the term "baby boomers" is problemmatical. We are NOT one generation. We are chronologically stratified. Even the separation of a few years made a big difference experientially considering how fast things were changing. And, even among those born in the same year, there were dissident factions. But the chronological variation, especially, is extremely significant. Our Graduate Student sensed it even when he was seventeen. There was this raging dialogue, this incredibly overwhelming movement sweeping the country, and the colleges were at the center of it all. We could cite Diane Ravitch's "The Trouble Decade" here, especially from the chapter "From Berkeley To Kent State," and maybe I will in future revisions, but I don't have time right now, so I recommend you just read the whole chapter.

Another Sunburst ?

Yeah. That's Right. Just BASK in it. Anyway, the point it, what Our Graduate Student sensed from the beginning, is that it was the seniors and graduate students who owned the demonstrations. It simply had to do with timing. If the boomer generation started with those born in '45 and went up to those born in '65, it was those born from '45 to '48 who coopted the generation, or at least the name. And there were young adults a little older than them who also laid claim to being part of that generation. After all, they argued, the generation was a "spirit", a "movement", not a chronological age. So, it was that group of children born from '45 to '47, who were juniors and seniors and graduate students when the campus unrest began, who co-opted "the boomer generation." Here, we'll just refer to that group of children as "the old children," because they were the oldest of the baby boomers and they were, and are, and forever will be children. entitled, bratty, tantrum-throwing children. In fact, I'll call them "the oldest childrenation," in honor of, er, rather, in contempt of the term, "the woodstock nation," which referred to that age group that attended "woodstock" and was also the title of a book by abbie hoffman who represented that woodstock generation well. "Dressed like clowns and let their hair grow long," is how P.J. O'Rourke described them. P.J. O'Rourke says he eventually grew up. abbie hoffman, and many like him, never did. abbie hoffman continuted to dress up like an indian and play "cowboys and indians" er, um, "cops and demonstrators" until he was finally assassinated, probably, for drugging President Carter's daughter with psychedelics. But, anyway the two points are these 1. Those born from '45 to '48 co-opted the term "baby boomer generation." Those born during the next 17 years were actually several separate generations, in their attitudes, outlooks, beliefs, opinions, and experiences. The term "boomer generation" should go the way of the nword and terms such as "critical thinking" and "traditional public schools." These terms are packed with style and empty of substance. "Booming," just like "critical," sounds important and "heavy, man !" But, anyway, that generation that was in control of the dialogue when Our Graduate Student was a 17-year-old college freshman literally pulling his hair out from trying to understand the chaos, is more accurately referred to as "the bratty, entitled, spoiled, tantrum-throwing, clownish, woodstock generation," or, "the woodstock generation," for short. It began with those just old enough to attend woodstock, and that began with those a couple of years older than Our Graduate Student, and included those ten or 15 years older than them. In other words, that generation includes those who were in their 20's or 30's in 1969. That's the woodstock generation: abbie hoffman, jerry rubin, mark rudd, bill ayers, bernadine dorn, tom hayden, jane fonda and mary jane olson (soliah of the sla). bonnie and clyde. "make demands that cannot be fulfilled, refuse to yield, whenever a demand is addressed immediately substitute another, equally impossible, demand in its place." That was jerry rubin ("Illiberal Education," p. 102) That bratty, self-entitled, tantrum-throwing, attention-craving, bomb-throwing, self-centered woodstock generation technically just overlapped the boomer generation for about only 3 years, from '45 to '47. Anybody who was a freshman or sophomore in college in 1968 or 1969 was being swept along by the tsunami led by those up to twenty years older, and more. It wouldn't be for another decade and a half, until 1982, that those 1968 freshman would first make their nonnegotiable demands ! Our Graduate Student's 1982 Newsletters were the equivalent of the port huron statement, setting the tone, theme, and content for his generation's evaluation, an evaluation based on knowledge, reason, and common sense, an evaluation who's judgment was unflattering, uncompromising, and unyielding

"THIS IS BULLSHIT !" was his informed and reasonable conclusion about the FAKE shallow liberal campus fascists.

Our Graduate Student was his generation's Tom Hayden, and limbaugh its abbie hoffman and jerry rubin. put together. Malcolm Gladwell supports this concept of the importance of birth year In "Outliers" (2008). He describes how the Titans of Silicon Valley were all born within 3 years, 1953, 1954, and 1955. Gladwell (pp. 63- 65) describes January, 1975, as the dawn of the personal computer age. In that month, "Popular Electronics" ran a cover story about the "Altair 8800", a minicomputer kit for $397. Gladwell explains that you had to be just the right age to get in on the ground floor. If you were too old in 1975, then you already had a computer job at IBM, married with a house and kids on the way. You weren't gonna quit to play with minicomputers. If you were too young, you were still in high school. Writes Gladwell, "The perfect age to be in 1975, in other words, is old enough to be a part of the coming revolution, but not so old that you missed it. Ideally, you want to be twenty or twenty-one, which is to say, born in 1954 or 1955. Gladwell then lists the Silicon Valley Titans and their birthdates (pp. 64 - 68). Steve Jobs, February 24, 1955 Bill Gates, October 28, 1955 Paul Allen, January 21, 1953 Steve Ballmer, March 24, 1956 (3 months younger) Eric Schmidt, April 27, 1955 Bill Joy, November 8, 1954 Scott McNealy, November 13, 1954 Vinod Kholsa, January 28, 1955 Andy Bechtolsheim, September 30, 1955

That's a Crazy Idea ! Who Ever Heard Of THAT ? And Why Did You Rearrange The Names From The Way Gladwell Listed Them, By Putting Steve Jobs First ?

OK, Mr. Costanza, Anyone Who Read Mr. Gladwell's Book Has Heard Of It. Besides, It's Just Common Sense. And, I put Mr Jobs first as an Act of Contrition. I'm so ashamed of what that sculley guy did to him that I've often considered changing my name because of it.

What Would You Change It To ?

I don't know. I was thinkin' of

"Steve Jobs, Jr."

Whaddya think !?

Well...I Dunno... Maybe...Maybe Later.

I mean, If Steve Jobs only knew ! I mean, if he only knew what it was like to actually have to be a scully. I mean the shame, the SHAME ! I mean, to have scullys for older brothers ! the horror ! the HORROR ! and that scully law professor at mcgeorge ! I mean, his frikkin' SPECIALTY is

Intellectual Property Law !

You think the bastard would help his namesake procure his rights ! He wouldn't even help Our Graduate Student obtain a copy of His Newsletter from someone at sac state. Said he had friends over there. Well, DUH, ya fuckin' asshole. That shoulda made it REAL EASY for ya to get a fuckin' copy. Then there's jan scully, the sacramento county d.a. It's pretty obvious she had a catholic education. What a fucking BITCH. She absolutely

REFUSED

to prosecute mary jane for the murder she committed when she took a loaded shotgun into a bank lobby during the commission of a robbery and shot and

KILLED

a church lady making a deposit for he church. Said she didn't have enough fucking EVIDENCE. Just an admission, witness, and vidos. That's all. And, besides, mary jane said the gun went off accidentally. That's understandable.

Of Course It Is. sla Domestic Terrorists Don't Kill People. Shotguns Kill People. Shotguns That Accidentally

GO OFF

Kill People. Loaded Shotguns That sla Domestic Terrorists Bring Into Bank Lobbies During The Commission Of A Robbery And Point At Church Ladies Making A Church Deposit Accidentally Go Off And Kill People !

That's right. Maybe I should be PROUD to be a scully. I mean, it kinda bugged Our Graduate Student, rather, he was contemptuous of jan scully for prosecuting him for a TRIFLE as a felony fugitive, while letting off the REAL FELONS in the proposition 77 FIASCO (her Republican cronies). But, considering the great COURAGE she showed in refusing to prosecute her soul sistah soliah (mary jane), her sacramento feminist sistuh, I guess that's something to be proud of, right ?

Well, Not Really, But "Vengeance Is Mine," Saith The Lord, Or Something Like That. Probably all the sacramento feminists put pressure on jan scully not to prosecute mary jane for the murder she committed because they consider mary jane TO BE ONE OF THEM. The Same Crowd THat's Been Conspiring Against Our Graduate Student For Three Decades, considers mary jane olson soliah, the sla terrorist, TO BE ONE OF THEM.

So, jan scully made Our Graduate Student a "felony fugitive" and now he's a Political Refugee who fled california to avoid continuous persecution and imprisonment and she's "one of the girls," one of the sacramento girls like mayor anne rudin and the rest of them, part of The Conspiracy, soul sistuh of the sla, the Domestic Terrorist Group, The Symbionese Liberation Army and mary jane the murderer. Shall we burn them at the stake ? Or just stone them ?

Well, You Can Take Consolation That john sculley isn't really a Scully. Yeah, but I had to put up with having two "thick mick" older scully brothers, AND a crazy older scully sister. What Doesn't Kill You Makes You Stronger. You Must Be Really Strong. Go Ahead And Call Yourself

Steve Jobs, Jr.,

at least as a nickname for now.

So, Anyway, Getting Back To This Point About Birth Year, You're Saying That The Bratty 60's Campus Demonstrators BECAME "The Establishment", And Those Born A Little Later Found Their Voice As The Noble Protestors in 1982 When Our Graduate Student Penned His Newsletters and When rush limabaugh Preached That Gospel Like Billy Graham ? So...If rush limbaugh was Billy Graham, Preaching Our Graduate Student's Gospel, Then Doesn't That Make Our Graduate Student...

Don't go there. I've never been given to the use of hyperbole.

When Was rush limbaugh born ?

The same time as Our Graduate Student. Just like those 9 Silicon Valley Titans, all born within three calendar years, limbaugh was born in January, 1950 or 1952, about a year from Our Graduate Student, March, 1951. limbaugh did a program like that once, himself, as I recall, talking about how so many of the shallow liberal fascists, now The Establishment, were of the same age, born the first 2 or 3 years of the baby boom.

So, Our Graduate Student Emigrated From california and Immigrated To Alaska In Search of Freedom And A Better Life ?

That's right.

And He Found More of "the oldest childrenation?"

That's right. "the oldest childrenation had invaded Alaska and infitrated Alaska education system and had become "The Establishment." Our Graduate Student was once again harassed and blacklisted from teaching. They wouldn't even let him be a student ! They actually banned him from the univ of alaska campus !

I've Got To Hear THIS !

In due time. In due time. I weary of the telling. But it's important that the story be told. But, first, as a respite, let us enjoy the
